Oxen and chandeliers
Last week I got a call from Catalin Stefanescu (from " Garantat
100% " tv show on TVR ), he told me that I simply must pass
by Galeria Posibila ( "Posibila"Galery) because there
is this really extraordinary painter from Timisoara currently exhibiting.
I've been wanting to drop by this private gallery for a long time,
I knew a lot about its projects, I knew it was found in the former
residence of a painter, Stefan Caltia, on Popa Petre str.
Driven
by the mentioned phone call, I ended up at Gheorghe Fikls, an artist
I haven't heard of before, 'Oxen and Chandeliers' exhibition (yes,
at least an exquisite title). I was a bit afraid, at seeing the
title, which I might again have to deal with an exaggeration of
some artist who shocks only to be remembered.
Fortunately this wasn't the case. I saw a very mature exhibition,
with impressive works, not only on account of grand dimensions but,
because of the force of the images, of the unusual association of
elements on the canvas. If I were Spanish I'd say that Gheorghe
Fikl has "cojones", as I'm not I'll just say that he has
an extraordinary force and he is a master of color, detail and composition.
The subject of his works (nine at number) is above all the animal
world ("Sheep and angels", "Bull on violet background",
"Bullterrier" etc. ) which, though evoked realistically.
Has a great symbolic charge.
If I wasn't clear enough, visit www.posibila.ro and see what this
is all about. If your Internet fails, pass by the gallery. It's
a possible alternative.
