The Artist
Gheorghe Fikl's works, nevertheless, conceal a profound metaphysical dimension.
The striking images and the violent tones, in which the antagonistic symbols of absolute piety and aggressive carnality explore each other from a small distance, reveal a permanent and almost unbearable psychological tension that focuses especially on this "no one's land" in between them.
Both angel and demon, the bipolar abyssal inner structure of the artistic ego recreates itself as a magic reality of a figurative surrealism.
The Romanian artist from Timisoara, graduate of the West University Timisoara, Painting department (after a couple of years at Art University in Cluj, before the department was established in Timisoara), Fikl exhibits in the most important cities of the country and also has several exhibitions abroad. |
Real life objects become drafts of his works. Surrealist objects with symbolic functions and dream symbols whose motifs come from astrology, zoology, botany, anatomy, chemistry, mechanics, and from other esoteric sciences. |

Fikl's paintings move through these settings with Botticellian weightlessness and with that other-worldly expression of Florentine saints and of the animals of the Balkan and Romanian countryside.
